We humans are always spending time with the mass of the earth.Mass is the stuff that came into being in the process of active crustal movement of the earth. The shape and texture of this object have changed over time and the global environment. The mass I'm referring to here is the stone. The stone, formed over a long period of time, also has some kind of energy stored in it.
The chair, named [Uki ishi], is made of highly rare Honkomatsu stone quarried in Manazuru-cho, and is supported at three points to float the 99 kg stone. This created an instalation-like atmosphere and a sense of floating.
The stones are floated by the way the tori gate is assembled. When you step through the tori gate that stands at the entrance of a sacred place in Japan, you feel the atmosphere of the world you have been in change. When this switch of air occurs, one feels not only a sense of floating, but also a sense of mystery. The tori gate is also a kind of boundary line.Floating it gives it a powerful, rough, and divine look like a sacred stone. The chair became the same existence as the boundary line by making the stones float and unite within the boundary of the tori gate.
Mass formed by volcanic activity 400,000 years ago.It has been changing its expression little by little for 400,000 years. Honkomatsuishi is a stone whose expression and texture change with the changing seasons and over time. Honkomatsuishi, known as “living stone,” brings out the strength of nature and its mysterious presence.
This [Uki ishi] is alive. It is the boundary between the ordinary and the extraordinary, and alows us to feel things like floating, mystery, and life with al five senses. I want you to feel the moment when the atmosphere of the place changes.
