建築学科を卒業後プロダクトレーベルに所属し、デザインチームで商品開発や3D製作を担当。2021年に独立しEPA CHAIR DESIGN OFFICEを設立。
1995年スリランカで産まれ、生後7ヶ月から日本で暮らし始める。数少ない里帰りは私自身にとって貴重な体験であり、唯一の生き甲斐であった。スリランカの美しい自然に触れると、体内で眠っていたスリランカ人の血が濁流のように身体を駆け巡る感覚が毎回起こる。遠く離れたスリランカの美しい自然と質量を愛し、多くのインスピレーションを得てきた。
地球の質量を大胆に使用しつつ日本の美しき職人の工法、建築技術や構造的な考え方を取り入れながら、椅子をはじめとするプロダクトを制作。素材そのものが持つ時間や記憶を尊重し、家具でありながら建築物を思わせるような作品を生み出している。
After graduating with a degree in architecture, he joined a product design label, where he worked on product development and 3D modeling as part of the design team. In 2021, he became independent and established EPA CHAIR DESIGN OFFICE.
Born in Sri Lanka in 1995, I moved to Japan when I was seven months old and have lived here ever since.The few occasions I had to return to Sri Lanka were precious to me, and became one of the few things that gave my life meaning. Whenever I encounter the beauty of Sri Lanka’s natural landscapes, I experience the sensation of the Sri Lankan blood that has lain dormant within me surging through my body like a raging current. I have always loved the beauty and physical presence of Sri Lanka’s distant natural landscapes, and have drawn endless inspiration from them.
Creating products, including chairs, that boldly embrace the mass of the earth while incorporating the craftsmanship, architectural techniques, and structural principles of Japan.Respecting the time and memories embodied within each material, the work seeks to create pieces that, while functioning as furniture, evoke the presence of architecture.
